Bio:

Jennifer has been artfully playing with clay for over ten years. From hand crafted tea boxes, lidded containers, hand painted serving trays and wine coolers to intricately detailed sculptures, Jennifer encourages the clay to determine its form. Releasing expectations of the outcome allows her works to be spontaneous and unique.

She describes the creative process. "The creative spirit is an energy that transcends the story of life. For some, the story is violence and war, for others it could be sickness or poverty. The story could be anything from situations at work (egos battling egos), personal traumatic history/drama, or on a more conceptual level, the limiting mass mind concept of who one is "supposed" to be or "expected" to be which stems directly from someone else's fear, shame, guilt, anger, etc.

When I am creating, the story dissolves completely and only the energy remains. Sometimes spirits from a distant past take shape in the clay I am molding with my hands. Sometimes the clay becomes an expression of pieces of me that I've yet to fully comprehend or give life to. It's an amazing experience to witness yourself outside of yourself and see yourself for who you really are. In the rawest form you are, simply put, energy."

Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art with a Sculpture concentration from American University. She has studied with numerous ceramic and fine artists in Maine, Arizona and North Carolina: the latter two states having a strong background in ceramics. Her work has exhibited in Arizona and North Carolina.

Yoga, her other passion, has brought Jennifer more in touch with her creative spirit. Her works often take the form of figures in Yoga asanas (poses).
